Sixty-five years ago, Ward Hutchinson, a Sharon resident, entered into a slide contest. He won first prize. The prize money was to be divided by $50 going to the photographer and $25 going to the camera club…but there was no camera club. So, Ward quickly organized one and appointed himself as President. The first meeting was in April 1957. The first meeting was spent voting on committee positions and drafting by-laws and the 2nd meeting included slide shows presented by the 20 or so members.
Fast forward 65 years, and our first meeting of the 2022-2023 season will have 20 or so members presenting their member showcases….though I doubt any will be actual slides! Members are encouraged to share their work in any format they’d like – slideshow, video, prints and yes, even actual slides if someone is so inclined. Presentations should be no more than 5 minutes per member. The meeting is scheduled to be in-person at Noble Horizons. At Noble, you may be asked to present your COVID-19 vaccination records and you may also be asked a few health questions so please be prepared.
Hopefully you were able to participate in some of our summer activities. There were two workshops held at the church last month. Thank you to Jeff for organizing these. And our booth at the Sharon Fair was another success thanks to all who participated. A big thanks to Heidi for spearheading the efforts. We had 11 individuals indicate that they were interested in becoming a member so I will be sending an email to them shortly to provide more details about the club and instructions on how to join.
For the upcoming season, we have scheduled some very good speakers – some from within the club as well as external speakers for our Zoom sessions. The plan is to have a mix of in-person and Zoom meetings this season. The Committee members have worked throughout the summer months to ensure we have an exciting program schedule for the new season. It takes all of us to pull together to keep this club going, and we’ve done it with all the obstacles thrown at us over the past 2 seasons. I’m excited by the enthusiasm we have for this great club! So, thank you!!
We went through some hard times in 2020-2022 but hope that the new season will be much kinder to us. Support you club and your newsletter with active participation because we cannot survive without that.
There are several committee positions open such as Salon Committee. If interested in any of these positions, please let Dawn or Lazlo know
the videos of our previous meetings
is finished. Thank you Jeff Breitman for your hard work on the project, selecting the pictures, putting it altogether, arranging the printing, etc.
Get in touch with Jeff if you want a copy of the book.
The coming season we will compete in NECCC interclub competitions in the Nature and Pictorial categories.
These competitions stay the same as last year.
We enter 4 images from 4 different members in the Nature and Pictorial competition.
We also compete in the PSA interclub competitions.
PSA is starting this year a Black and White competition, we will compete in the Pictorial and Black and White categories this year, and NOT in the Travel category anymore.
In the PSA competitions we enter 6 images from 6 different members.
I will start asking for NECCC’s Nature and Pictorial images in September, and for PSA’s Pictorial and Black and White images in October.
Get ready and start collecting your images now.

O n the first Sunday of August, creative talent from the area gathered in Sharon and organized an amazing showcase of their arts and crafts on the town’s green.
There were many booths displaying handwork, food products and other functional items such as locally made wooden planks and recycled salt and pepper dispensers to be used as ornaments for door handles.
Tucked in the middle of the green was another tent and this one represented the work of the members belonging to the Housatonic Camera Club.
Some members gathered early and helped set-up the pop-up art gallery that featured some thirty plus photographs, representative of their work. Others came later and offered two hours of their time to promote the Club.
Many interested by-passers paused in their tracks and showed genuine interest towards the displayed works and the personalities that snapped the images. Not sure if any art was sold or new members signed up, but the air was filled with happy summer vibes that day and that was sufficient to turn it into an excellent Sunday.
Hope to see you all next year!.
