For our October Meeting, Jeff and Steve gave us a presentation on converting photos to Black and White. Photos from the meeting can be found in the newsletter. Don’t forget to check out the “Tips and Tutorials” posted on our main HCC webpage – there are several pertaining to Black and White Photography. Just in time for our PSA B and W competition. Don’t forget to send your photos in for PSA by sundown November 2nd. To view past winning images for PSA, please visit
https://psa-photo.org/page/competition-results. Remember, even if you don’t have photos in the competitions, please take the time to log in and vote and remember to leave comments. As a club, we should strive to help each other to improve one another’s work with honest, thoughtful feedback. Be polite, have a purpose and remember to provide both good points and mention points worth improving.
Our November meeting is Tuesday the 21st via Zoom. This is NOT an in-person meeting. Our presenter is Bert Serkin, a professional photographer from Boston who has done many presentations for us in the past. The topic is the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on Photography. Various aspects of AI will be discussed including the AI features available in Photoshop and other cutting-edge tools.
Thanks to Lazlo for producing our fantastic newsletter each month. Remember to send articles and photos to support his efforts.
Hope to see you at the next meeting. In the meantime, happy shooting.

I just returned from photographing Acadia National Park last week. I never tire of October in Acadia, even after decades and the privilege of doing two exhibit format books on the park. I’ve developed an intimacy with the area that only reinforces knowing when and where to go. I like repeating locations that are part of my life, including here in the NW Corner. Such in depth immersion not only fosters a more creative vision but allows us, in the words of Barry Lopez, “to wear the landscape like clothing”. This recent trip was augmented by the shared creative energy of two local friends, Brooke Loening and James Ferris. In the best spirit of HCC we inspired each other and hiked miles of trails, which served to engage all our senses with weather, light and land. Five days of effort left us exhausted but gratified in our love for nature and photography.
Located in Budapest, Memento Park is a home to statues from the communist dictatorship era. These statues include those of Lenin, Marx, and Engels, representing the fallen Communist regime.
The park serves as a graveyard for communist statues, showcasing the relics of Hungary's communist past. The statues are displayed along with memorial plaques that were removed after the downfall of communism.
