Our next show will be at the the Noble Horizons starting on January 16. We are looking for more people to help with salon shows. Training will be provided 😉😵💫😝🤣
This season NECCC and PSA completions The Housatonic
Camera Club will again compete this coming season in the NECCC and PSA interclub
competitions.
The NECCC Digital interclub Competition will have “Open”,
and “Nature” categories.
The maximum image size for the NECCC competition
will this year increase to 1920 x 1080 pixels.
We will sent the four
highest scoring images from our internal scoring to the NECCC Competition.
Be aware that NECCC does not allow any "Nature" subject in the color competition.
Regarding "AI", it seems it will not being allowed in the competition images,
but they are still putting the new rules on their website and when they
have finished I hope to sent everyone a link to these "Rules".
The PSA
Digital Interclub Competition will have "Color" and Monochrome categories.
The maximum image size stays 1920 x 1080 pixels and all subjects are allowed
in both categories. We will sent the six highest scoring images from our
internal scoring to the PSA Competition.
PSA is also writing new rules
about using "AI" in competition images and I hope to send links to those
rules in the future.
We hope that many members participate this year
and use these competitions to show each other our images.
Happy shooting
Bert

Our first meeting of the season For our
October Meeting, Jack Kearney gave us a presentation on “Composition in
Landscape Photography”. Members were engaged throughout the presentation.
I think everyone walked away with some good tips for landscape photography.
I look forward to applying the tips the next time I am out shooting. Don’t
forget to check out the “Tips and Tutorials” posted on our main HCC webpage
– there are several tips there that may be helpful as well. Soon we will
be asking for photos for PSA. The categories this year are Black and White
and Color. Remember, even if you don’t have photos in the competitions,
please take the time to log in and vote and remember to leave comments.
As a club, we should strive to help each other to improve one another’s
work with honest, thoughtful feedback. Be polite, have a purpose and remember
to provide both good points and mention points worth improving.
Our November
meeting is Tuesday the 18th via Zoom. This is NOT an in-person meeting.
Our presenter is Phil Atiyeh and the presentation is “Four Creative Techniques
that will Rock Your World”. You can find out more about him at his website
https://www.philatiyeh.com/. Thanks
to Lazlo for producing our fantastic newsletter each month. Remember to
send articles and photos to support his efforts.
Hope to see you at the
next meeting. In the meantime, happy shooting.

Last month my wife, Lynn, and I had the thrill going on safari in Uganda and Kenya. I first went to Africa in 1970, and the experience was instrumental in launching my career as a conservation photographer. This was my sixth return to Africa, and I would go every year if I could. It embodies everything I love about nature photography. To be surrounded by mega-fauna in a setting that embodies the origins of humankind is unique in the world and totally humbling. Go if you possibly can, as it struggles to sustain itself. I look forward to sharing more with you once the long-haul edit is complete.

Our October meeting featured a captivating presentation
by Jack Kearney on Composition in Landscape Photography. Jack explored the many
elements that make a strong landscape image, including focal length, luminosity,
balance, and visual flow. He shared practical tips and creative insights to
help us elevate our compositions in the field.
The session was interactive
from start to finish, with members encouraged to ask questions throughout. After
the presentation, Jack hosted a lively Q and A session, followed by a unique
opportunity for members to critique his photos—sparking thoughtful discussion
and new perspectives on compositional choices.
It was an inspiring evening
filled with learning, conversation, and community, reminding us all that great
landscape photography begins with mindful composition.
The month of October is almost gone. It is the
month that my husband and I celebrated our birthdays and we make our yearly
wedding anniversary trip to Europe.
Spain is our go to place and this time
as always did not disappoint. Walking through diverse enclaves of Spain, eating
sumptuous tapas, absorbing the historic richness, feeling the energetic vibe
of its people, and walking the boardwalks watching all things beachy along the
Mediterranean Sea are some of our favorites.
San Sebastián in the Basque
Region on the coast of Bay of Biscay was a must stop. It is known for the most
Michelin star restaurants in any region of the world. The Maria Kristina Bridge
on the Uremia River was well appointed with grand buildings and imposing statues
on both sides of the bridge.
Bordeaux, the world capital of wine, was in
the making since the 5th century. It is steeped in history and I felt privileged
to be ensconced with its period architectural beauty.
October may be gone
soon but the wonders of these European cities will dazzle for years to come.
