Our first meeting of the season will take place at Noble Horizons on September 16th, starting at 7. We are going to have "Member Showcases " where members are encouraged to share their work in any format they’d like – slideshow, video, or print. Presentations should be no more than 5 minutes per member. Public is welcome.
This season NECCC and PSA completions
The Housatonic Camera Club will again compete this coming season in the NECCC and PSA interclub competitions.
The NECCC Digital interclub Competition will have “Color”, “Monochrome”, and “Nature” categories. After a one year hiatus in the Nature category, the Housatonic Camera Club will again compete in all three categories this year.
The maximum image size for the NECCC competition will this year increase to 1920 x 1080 pixels.
We will sent the four highest scoring images from our internal scoring to the NECCC Competition.
Be aware that NECCC does not allow any "Nature" subject in the color competition.
Regarding "AI", it seems it will not being allowed in the competition images, but they are still putting the new rules on their website and when they have finished I hope to sent everyone a link to these "Rules".
The PSA Digital Interclub Competition will have "Color" and Monochrome categories. The maximum image size stays 1920 x 1080 pixels and all subjects are allowed in both categories.
We will sent the six highest scoring images from our internal scoring to the PSA Competition.
PSA is also writing new rules about using "AI" in competition images and I hope to send links to those rules in the future.
We hope that many members participate this year and use these competitions to show each other our images.
Happy shooting
Bert

Welcome to another exciting year with our photography
club! It’s been a busy summer for the club so it feels like we never
had a break. In July, we kicked off a salon show at the Sharon Hospital.
It was so well received that the venue requested we extend the show until
September 5th. In August, we had a booth at the Sharon Arts & Craft
Festival where we held our annual push for new members. We had beautiful
weather and got to speak with a lot of people about photography and our
club. Hopefully we will get some new members from the day. As we enter
our 68th year, we’re thrilled to welcome several new members who joined
over the summer. This season, we are hoping to provide you with a with a
lineup of inspiring speakers, engaging field trips, and several salon shows
where we can showcase our work. As usual, we will have a mixture of in-person
and Zoom meetings. For our first meeting, we will present our Member Showcases
where members are encouraged to share their work in any format they’d like
– slideshow, video, or print. Presentations should be no more than 5 minutes
per member. The meeting will be in person at Noble Horizons in the Cobble
building. Before the meeting, the HCC Committee will meet in the main building
at Noble to discuss the upcoming season. We will once again participate
in photography competitions with other clubs affiliated with NECCC and PSA.
Our first competition will be in October so start preparing your submissions.
I look forward to seeing you at our next meeting.

Iceland is a fascinating place. Formed by volcanic eruptions, it sits on both the North American and European tectonic plates, which are pulling apart. Mountains tend to be dark rather then verdant. The physical darkness adds to the palpable sense of isolation found everywhere outside Reykjavik. I was there this past June. The weather was cold and it rained parts of almost every day. These photos are from the Reykjavik harbor, (the orange lighthouse), Pingvellir National Park and Gulfoss Waterfall (both part of the famed Golden Circle outside Reykjavik), a church in a small town on the Reykjanes Peninsula, Isafjordur, and the Westman Islands, including the black sand beaches.

The Annual Sharon on the Green Arts and Crafts Fair was held on the Sharon
Green on August 2nd. There are typically 60-80 vendors offering original works.
The Housatonic Camera Club once again had a booth. Several members showed up
at 8:15 to begin setup. After the tent and tables were set up, we hung approx.
25 photos which were submitted by multiple members. The fair ran from 10:00
am - 5:00 pm. At 9:43, we were ready to go. Throughout the day, members volunteered
for 2-hour shifts where they spoke with members of the public. We gave information
about the club, handed out business cards, spoke about the photos and offered
a free raffle. Many visitors were amazed at the wonderful photos on display
and many wanted to know more -- about the photographer, where the photo was
taken, technique used, print format, etc. At 4:30, we pulled the tickets for
the raffle winners. Heidi called each one and arranged for pick-up of their
photo. Thank you to Lazlo, Jack and Heidi for donating a photo for the raffle.
At 4:40, we started packing up. By 5:15pm, we were finished. A full day!
We did get several folks to sign up to get more information from the club.
An email was sent to those who requested information and hopefully we can get
some new members from this event. Below are some photos from the day. Thank
you to all who submitted photos and volunteered your time for this event!
Steve and Gail took a 2 week tour of Scandinavia this past Spring - covering Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Aero Island, and rural seaside towns in northern Denmark, and Norway, viewing the spectacular Fjords. Big cities, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Oslo, Bergen and the small towns up North. We were not sure how much we would "connect" with these cities, but we loved Oslo and Copenhagen - as well as Bergen in Northern Norway. Eye opening in how much support to the population from all of the governments, but each of the countries have small populations and much wealth - Oil in Norway and several global concerns in Denmark (Lego, Pharmaceuticals, shipping).
