COMING SHOWS

We have no new shows scheduled for the Summer, but do keep in mind that we are going to participate at the Sharon Art Festival in early August and we need your very best pictures to showcase our club's talent. In addition we are planning to have a show late in the Fall at the Sharon Hospital. We will keep you posted about the details

This season NECCC and PSA competitions The Housatonic Camera Club will again compete this coming season in the NECCC and PSA interclub competitions.
The NECCC Digital interclub Competition will have “Open”, and “Nature” categories.
The maximum image size for the NECCC competition will this year increase to 1920 x 1080 pixels.
We will sent the four highest scoring images from our internal scoring to the NECCC Competition.
Be aware that NECCC does not allow any "Nature" subject in the color competition.
Regarding "AI", it seems it will not be allowed in the competition images, but they are still putting the new rules on their website and when they have finished I hope to send everyone a link to these "Rules".
The PSA Digital Interclub Competition will have "Color" and Monochrome categories. The maximum image size stays 1920 x 1080 pixels and all subjects are allowed in both categories. We will sent the six highest scoring images from our internal scoring to the PSA Competition.
PSA is also writing new rules about using "AI" in competition images and I hope to send links to those rules in the future.
We hope that many members participate this year and use these competitions to show each other our images.
Happy shooting
Bert

President's Message by Dawn Dingee

As I write this final President’s Message, I find myself reflecting on what an extraordinary journey the past ten years have been. Serving as President of HCC has truly been an honor. Over the last decade, my tenure has been filled with friendship, creativity, learning, and our shared passion for photography.
Over the years, our club has experienced many changes. We have welcomed new members, explored new technologies, adapted to changing times, and expanded the ways we learn from one another. We even made it through the pandemic together! Through it all, one thing has remained constant — the enthusiasm and dedication of our members. I have been continually inspired by the talent, generosity, and sense of community that make this club so special. Together, we have celebrated award-winning images, hosted competitions and workshops, organized outings, and encouraged one another to grow as photographers and artists. I am proud of all we have accomplished together, but even more grateful for the friendships and memories that have come from being part of this organization.
As I step down as President, I do so with confidence in the future of the club. New leadership brings fresh ideas and new energy, and I look forward to watching the club continue to thrive. I plan to take on another role in the club and I hope my experience can help the club in other ways. Thank you for your support, encouragement, and trust throughout these past ten years. It has been a privilege to serve you, and although my role is changing, I will always remain proud to be a member of this wonderful club.
Now on to other club business…Our final meeting of the year is coming up on us quickly. The June 16 th meeting will be our annual picnic from 5:00 – 8:00 pm at Kent Falls State Park in Kent, CT. Heidi sent out sign-up sheets for the pot luck. Don’t forget a lawn chair and drink. Let’s hope for sunny weather!

Hillary and Norgay by G.A. Mudge and Artie Fischial

How was the photo of Hillary and Norgay on top of Everest made. There was no third person on the summit.
The famous summit photograph was taken by Edmund Hillary himself. It shows Tenzing Norgay standing on the summit of Mount Everest with his ice axe. There was no third climber on the summit.
Hillary carried a small Kodak Retina camera inside his jacket to keep it from freezing in the extreme cold. When they reached the summit on May 29, 1953, he photographed Norgay.
There is no equivalent summit photograph of Hillary because, according to Norgay’s later account, Norgay did not really know how to operate the camera, and Hillary declined to pose while trying to explain it at nearly 29,000 feet.
The widely circulated photograph showing both men together was not taken on the summit itself. It was taken later, lower on the mountain or after the expedition, by another expedition member or photographer. Some people confuse that later publicity image with the actual summit shot. The only confirmed summit photo from the moment of the first ascent is Hillary’s picture of Norgay.
Here is the iconic summit image query:
